Overview

Linguistic diversity is an exciting and ever-present reality in the 21st century. The TESL/TEFL minor prepares Â鶹´«Ã½ to work with linguistically diverse populations both in the United States and globally. In addition to pre-service teachers, Â鶹´«Ã½ from any major who wish to teach English as a Second or Foreign Language will gain both a theoretical foundation and real-world experience - a strong basis from which to pursue future certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

The core of the minor introduces Â鶹´«Ã½ to first and second language acquisition and the structure of the English language. Students also will choose one methods course - either geared towards teaching in a K-12 school environment in the U.S. or teaching English as a foreign language abroad. The minor is rounded out with two electives chosen from variety of departments, allowing Â鶹´«Ã½ to tailor the minor to their own professional goals.
